Etude sixth winner by Exceedance

Exciting freshman Exceedance sired Swiftfalcon to win at Rosehill on Saturday and he didn’t waste any time doubling up with another promising 2yo at Muswellbrook on Monday.

The Vinery Stud resident was represented by his sixth individual winner this season when Etude looked a class above her rivals in the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association Maiden Hcp (1000m).  The Kris Lees-trained youngster went out an odds-on favourite against older horses on debut and was given a gun ride by Christian Reith.

Etude settled in the box-seat behind the speed and broke clear in the straight to score convincingly from My Mate Cobber (Dissident) and Sapphire Kiss (Deep Field).  “She’s far from the finished product,” Reith explained.  “She felt good in the run but is still new and ran about in the straight.

“I liked her trial at Gosford last month and I didn’t get to the bottom of her today.”

Etude is a homebred for Kia Ora Stud with Vinery partners Steve McCann and Neil Werrett and is the first foal of Sangita (Sebring).  She was an $800,000 yearling bred by Makybe Racing’s Tony Santic from the family of Group 1 racehorse and sire Starspangledbanner (Choisir).

Stable manager Andrew Le Jeune predicted there’s more improvement to come from Etude.  “She’s still learning and growing and will come on for than run under her belt.  She has potential and Kris will decide whether to give her another run or put her away.”

Lees has another Exceedance named Madecci in work and he was placed in a Scone barrier trial for Australian Bloodstock last Wednesday.  Swiftfalcon’s stablemate Brave One also ran a drum in a Rosehill hit-out a day earlier for Hawkes Racing.

Exceed the Planet is another imminent Exceedance winner in the west for Gold Front Racing’s Alan and Sue Olive.  He’s a half-brother to Group 1 winner Awesome Rock and was runner-up to Elite Missile (Smart Missile) at Belmont on Saturday.

Vinery stands Exceedance (Exceed And Excel) for a $33,000 (inc GST) service fee with payment on a live foal.  For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
