Brilliant colt Fire Eyes won’t be long paying back an expensive price tag on the evidence of his debut win in England on Friday.
Fire Eyes (2c Exceed And Excel – Wunders Dream by Averti) took command to win a 1000 metre maiden at Thirsk by more than two lengths for Qatar Racing’s Sheikh Fahad.
The winner smashed Doncaster Bloodstock’s 2YO Sale record in April when making 300,000 pounds (AUD 468,000) to the bid of agent David Redvers. He bought the colt on behalf of Sheikh Fahad and his brothers Sheikh Hamad and Sheikh Suhaim.
Fire Eyes was pin-hooked as a yearling at the 2011 Doncaster Premier Sale for 43,000 pounds but was always going to be a popular in April after a brilliant breeze-up prior to the 2YO Sale.
Sold by Tally Ho Stud, he is by Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel from Wunders Dream, a G2 winner of the 2002 Flying Childers Stakes.
Wunders Dream has a Teofilo filly catalogued for this year’s DBS Premier yearling sale scheduled for August 29 and 30.
