Tattersalls brought the curtain down on the 2012 October yearling sale with an Exceed And Excel – Crystal Moments colt that topped Book 3.
Friday’s final session leader was offered by Castlebridge and he made 52,000gns to the bid of renowned pin-hooker Willie Browne. “He’s been bought to go into training with David Barron,” Browne said. “He looks a real early type of two-year-old to my eyes.”
Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel had topped Day 1 and Day 3 during the Book 2 Sale with colts that made a combined 350,000gns .
The sale also capped a memorable couple of weeks for Castlebridge who was leading vendor during Book 1 having sold the sale-topping son of Galileo for 2.50 million guineas
Trade at the end of Book 3 reached 1.67 million guineas. The average increased fractionally by 29gns to 8,390gns and the median was up 9% to 6,000gns.
“The two weeks of the October Yearling Sales are long and sometimes arduous,” Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said. “But to have exceeded all expectations for the second consecutive year is a marvellous achievement.”
