Exceed And Excel tops HKJC International Sale

An Australian bred Exceed And Excel gelding topped the Hong Kong International Sale at Sha Tin on Saturday.

The three year-old is from Melbourne Group 3 winner Galapagos Girl (Dehere) and was bought by Tse Kwok Fai for HK$7.50 million (AUD 1.06 million).  Bred by Wayne Bedggood’s Cressfield Stud, he had originally changed hands for $220,000 at the 2012 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Turnover had reached HK$64.70 million (AUD 9.17 million) by the time Tattersalls auctioneer John O’Kelly sold the last of 16 lots to parade.

“It’s safe to say the sale exceeded expectations, averaging over HK$4 million per lot,” HKJC director William Nader said.  “We offered a group of nice individuals and it seemed like there was satisfaction among buyers at the way the horses presented on the day.”

Second on the leader-board was a Fastnet Rock – Permissive (Snippets) gelding that made HK$6.70 million (AUD 950,355).  He had realised $350,000 from Evergreen Stud at the 2012 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
