Express lane to Karaka Million

The Stephen Marsh trained filly Hogwarts Express (NZ) led home a quinella for Karaka Million candidates at Te Rapa on Thursday.

Hogwarts Express (Elusive City) went into the Te Akau Juvenile (1200m) after a last start second at Taranaki and she made no mistake to score by almost two lengths from Magic Shaft (Shaft).

The winner is now in 19th place on the Karaka Million Order of Entry.  She was purchased from Haunui Farm at the NZB 2011 Karaka Festival Sale for $14,000.

Haunui Farm will offer a half-brother to Hogwarts Express by Iffraaj as Lot 930 at the 2012 Karaka Select Sale.  The colt is part of a 59 strong yearling draft at Karaka.

Haunui sold the top priced Iffraaj at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale to Mark Kavanagh for $540,000.  A half-brother to G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive (Zabeel), he has been named If I Could and will debut at Flemington on Saturday.

Te Rapa runner-up Magic Shaft is sitting in 14th place on the Karaka Million Order of Entry.  He was a $60,000 purchase by trainer John Sargent from Te Mania Thoroughbreds at the 2011 Karaka Select Sale.

The $1 million Karaka Million is New Zealand’s richest race and will be run on Sunday, January 29 at Ellerslie.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series will be held at the Karaka sales complex from January 30 to February 5.  For news and information about the Sales Series contact reception@nzb.co.nz or visit www.nzb.co.nz
