Kentucky bred debutante Brown Eyes Blue became the first USA winner for Vinery shuttler Big Brown on Saturday.
Brown Eyes Blue (2f Big Brown – Golden Lips by Silver Ghost) scored a convincing barrier-to-box victory over 1200m at Churchill Downs. She was bred by Nicholas and Rosemary Lotz in partnership with the Big Brown Syndicate and is trained by Dale Romans for Twin Creeks Racing Stables.
Brown Eyes Blue was initially sold for $70,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale and changed hands again when making $180,000 at the 2012 Keeneland 2YO Sale in April.
Her dam is a half sister to stakes winners Hotstufanthensome (Awesome Again), Silver Charades (Broad Brush) and Tacit Agreement (Unbridled).
Big Brown’s first winner arrived earlier in June when Ruby Brown opened his account in Russia.
A seven-year-old by Boundary (Danzig), Big Brown won 7 of his 8 starts including the G1 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Haskell Invitation and Florida Derby. He will shuttle to Vinery for a $22,000 fee this year.
