Falvelon sired the second juvenile winner of the season at Tamworth on Thursday when the Neil Godbolt trained gelding Gelido won the ATAC Romantic Dream 2yo Plate (1000m).
Gelido (2g Falvelon – Ahclaw by Fasliyev) defeated Mystery Flight (Dubai Destination) by more than two lengths in 58.21s. Godbolt had nominated the youngster for the Listed Breeders’ Plate at Randwick on Saturday but, when he came up as the first emergency, the Port Macquarie trainer was forced to look for an alternative at short notice.
The Falvelon gelding showed he would have given the Sydneysiders plenty to catch if he had of gained a start in the Breeders’ Plate. He landed in front at Tamworth and, although pressured for the lead, took it all in his stride before cruising home in the straight.
Gelido is raced by owner-breeder Norm Bazeley who had a feeling the winner was pretty good from the outset. “He took almost a second off the race record yesterday and had plenty more left up his sleeve,” Bazeley said. “We will turn him out now and then come back for the $250,000 William Inglis race in December.”
Gelido is from a winning half-sister to G3 BTC Mayor’s Cup winner Rum Dum (Peintre Celebre). He was catalogued for the 2010 Inglis Scone yearling sale through the Elswick Park draft but failed to reach a $28,000 reserve.
Falvelon also sired Gold Coast winner Jamandtoast on Thursday. The Glenlogan Park stallion can keep the winners coming on Saturday with Flaxton (Riccarton), Falco Star (Eagle Farm) and Sherann (Belmont).
