Falvelon missed out on the big bucks when Extreme Mover finished among the tailenders in the Magic Millions Classic on Saturday but he got square later in the day with a winning double on the Gold Coast.
Walking Or Dancing broke through for an overdue feature win in the $500,000 Magic Millions Cup and Gundy Son followed up a Doomben win on Boxing Day with another on-pace victory in the $100,000 Magic Millions Class 6 Plate.
Falvelon was a Group 1 winner in Australian and Hong Kong but he has been overshadowed on the Glenlogan Park roster by Queensland champion Show A Heart.
In many respects, Falvelon is not unlike Lyndhurst Stud sire Sequalo. They are both consistent winner-getters but aren’t in favour at the sales. Together, they had over a dozen yearlings in the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions but neither horse had an entrant where it counts in Sessions 1-4.
Walking Or Dancing (5h Falvelon – Young Vic by Old Vic) has always been rated highly by trainer Brett Partelle. The Wyong horseman even nominated him for the 2008 Doncaster Hcp (G1) when he was still a Class 1 galloper!
Walking Or Dancing’s last win was at the AJC Easter carnival in April 2009 but he has since been runner-up in the Bill Ritchie (G3) at Randwick and was very unlucky when beaten a length in the AAMI Stakes (G3) at Flemington on Victoria Derby day.
“I told Glen (Boss) in the yard that this horse would win and he did the rest,” Partelle said. “He’s such an underrated horse but I always knew he had a good race in him.
Walking Or Dancing was an $85,000 buy out of the Broadwater Farm draft at the 2006 Gold Coast Magic Millions. He is a half-brother to the Sydney winners Irongail (Canny Lad), Aim for Gold (End Sweep), Miss Nikki (Strategic) and the dam of G2 Sandown Guineas winner Kidnapped (Viscount) and Listed SA Hill Smith Stakes winner Deledio (Testa Rossa).
Gundy Son (4g Falvelon – Dantibes’ Treasure by Dantibes) has been a great money-spinner for his owners who hail from Goondiwindi. They named the horse after the Eastern Downs town as did connections of Champion galloper Gunsynd some 40 years ago.
Gundy Son has won 6 times in 16 starts but trainer Robbie Heathcote admits it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the gelding who had previously been stabled with Johnny Wallace and Sean Dwyer.
“He was a bugger when he first arrived at my stables,” Heathcote said. “He’s had to learn to be a racehorse and it has been a bit of a challenge. The penny still hasn’t dropped but when it does I think he can win a really nice race.”
Gundy Son was a $26,000 buy at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions March yearling sale. He has now accrued $171,650 in prizemoney and bonuses. His dam is a winning half-sister to Treasure The Kwila (Mister Kwila) who notched up 18 victories to Listed level in the Bribie Hcp at Eagle Farm.
