Familiar colours for FuPeg winner

Fusaichi Pegasus sired the first winner from his final southern crop when Lord Bryn broke through in the Sensaslim Maiden Plate (810m) at Coffs Harbour on Sunday.  The colt had been wayward at Coffs and Port Macquarie in December but was on his best behaviour for apprentice Priscilla Schmidt on a Heavy 10 third time out.

Lord Bryn carries the light blue and gold colours that are very familiar to Coffs Harbour racegoers.  He is trained locally by Gordon Yorke for owners Brian and Rosie Dorricott and they also raced top-class sprinter Natural Destiny several years ago.

Lord Bryn (2c Fusaichi Pegasus – Marscay Image by Marscay) is member of FuPeg’s final Australian crop conceived in 2007.  The Kentucky Derby winner hasn’t been back to Australia since holding the fort for Coolmore during the E.I. crisis.  He covered 152 mares that spring at an advertised fee of $66,000.

In Australia, Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr Prospector) has sired 209 southern-bred winners of 459 races to date at a more than creditable 61% strike-rate.  His G1 winning son Haradasun (Coolmore Stud) and G1 Golden Slipper runner-up Zizou (Turangga Stud) have their first yearlings catalogued for the 2011 majors.

Natural Destiny (Naturalism) will also have his first yearlings for sale from Willowbend Stud this year.  After cruising home in a Coffs Harbour maiden in August 2005, he went on to win 10 races from 15 starts including the Listed Doomben Stakes (1300m) when he broke Falvelon’s track record and Takeover Target’s race record!

The Dorricotts have a Natural Destiny half-brother to Lord Bryn that was foaled in October.  Their dam Marscay Image was a Canterbury winner and she has already been represented by the winners Heresay (Dehere) and Pimpala Cobber (Desert Prince).
