Fancy Red is the latest TBWA Winner Of The Week in a photo-finish with her stablemate Supernatural. Both 3yo fillies are by Oakland Park resident Sessions and are trained by Adam Durrant.
“Supernatural resumed from a spell for a storming victory with stable apprentice Brayden Gaerth in the saddle at Ascot on Saturday,” Durrant Racing reported. “She showed true grit stretching her neck at the line to secure a hard-fought win for her proud owner-breeders John Blackburn and Peter Rogers.”
Fancy Red is an Oakland Park homebred and she can keep lifting bar after a very impressive victory in the Procon Australia Hcp (1300m) at Northam on Sunday. She jumped in front before taking a trail when Buster’s Girl (I’m All The Talk) and Gingerbread Girl (Gingerbread Man) took off but Willie Pike had both those ‘Girls’ in sight on the home turn.
It was Fancy Red’s turn to take over in the straight and she slipped the field to lead home a Sessions quinella from the Holly Taylor-trained mare Processio on the opening day of the season in the Avon Valley.
“Fancy Red showed a strong turn of foot to pull clear in a Pinjarra maiden earlier this month,” Durrant Racing posted. And she delivered for favourite backers again with a comfortable victory at Northam.”
Oakland Park owners Neville and Susan Duncan had purchased Fancy Red’s dam Showme Thediamonds for $5,000 through Belmont Bloodstock (as agent) at the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast. The mare’s earlier NSW-bred foals included Diamond Made (Duke Of Marmalade) who won the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in 2016.
Sessions (Lonhro) is flying this month on the back of his top-class 3yo Sail Session winning at Listed level at Ascot in the John Roberts Stakes (1800m) and Melvista Stakes (2200m) in March-April.
Supernatural’s older full-brother and stablemate Supersession had also weighed in with a Great Southern double for Durrant and the same owner-breeders in the Mount Barker Sprint (1300m) and Fitzpatrick Plate (1230m) at Albany.
Fancy Red’s maiden win at Pinjarra on May 1 was the middle-leg of a Sessions treble sandwiched between Denver Affair and Big Karri.
Like Fancy Red, Sessions 3yo Wineaclocksumwhere also carried Oakland Park’s colours to victory in the Nutrien Ag Solutions Hcp (1230m) at Albany on Thursday. Ridden by Tash Faithful for Pearce Racing, Wineaclocksumwhere was the was the second-leg of a double for Oakland Park following five-length winner Famous Dain (Shamus Award).
Playing God heads this season’s WA 3YO winners and wins table (21 – 33) from Sessions (18 – 30) and Maschino (11 – 17).
