Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro was again responsible for the most expensive lot during the second and final session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky yearling sale in Lexington on Wednesday.

The Medaglia d’Oro – High in the Park (Ascot Knight) filly brought the highest price on Day 2 when selling to agent Deborah Easter for US$350,000.  The session topper is a half-sister to G1 Metropolitan Hcp winner Divine Park (Chester House) and will race for Viriginia based breeders Wick and Carter McNeely who operate Morrowdale Farm.

“She’s by Medaglia d’Oro and he is probably the hottest sire right now,” Easter said.  “She has a big, huge walk and a lovely neck and shoulder.  The final price was about as far as I could go.”

The 2010 sale average price decreased 2.5% to $75,870 which was the lowest since 1999.  “The buy-back rate was a lot better this year (71%) than last year,” Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning Jr. said.  “There’s a solid market out there for horses and the vendors might not be as aggressive with their reserves.  When that happens, the prices will drop.”

Sheikh Mohammed topped the overall sale when he paid $450,000 for the Medaglia d’Oro – Beright (Gray Slewpy) colt on Day 1.  Sheikh Mohammed stands Medaglia d’Oro at Darley’s Lexington base and he will shuttle to Australia for the first time in 2010.
