Lane’s End stallion After Market topped Day 1 of Fasig-Tipton’s Maryland yearling sale on Tuesday at $250,000. The chestnut colt is half-brother to Double Down Vinman (Out of Place) whose 11 wins included a Listed victory in the Lil E Tee Hcp at Presque Isle Downs.
They are from Christmas Strike (Smart Strike) who has also thrown winners by Pleasant Tap, Holy Bull and Lion Hearted.
After Market (Storm Cat) was a G1 winner of the 2007 Eddie Read Hcp and Charles Whittingham Memorial before retiring to Lane’s End. His dam Tranquility Lake (Rahy) was a G1 winner of the Yellow Ribbon Stakes and Gamely Breeders’ Cup.
The session-topper was purchased by Jay Em Ess Stable who also weighed in $170,000 for an Exchange Rate filly and $100,000 for a Not For Love colt.
Fasig-Tipton reported the first of two sessions saw 207 yearlings fetch $3.23 million. The average of $15,634 was 21% up on last year. The clearance rate remained steady at 73%.
