Fast Clip undermined the hopes of several AJC Derby aspirants when he trounced a strong field in the G2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

But the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding won’t run in the Randwick classic next Saturday.  “He’s such a good horse,” Waterhouse said.  “I will run him in the Frank Packer Plate then set him for the Melbourne spring carnival.”

Waterhouse purchased the winner for $180,000 from Turangga Farm at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  

Fast Clip (3g Snippetson – Hint Of Glory by Honour And Glory) won his maiden in May 2010 and returned for further victories at Canterbury and Randwick (2) earlier this year.  He went into the Tulloch Stakes on the back of a narrow loss to Blackie in the G2 Phar Lap Stakes a fortnight ago.

The Snippetson gelding is owned by a syndicate that includes Gai’s daughter Kate Waterhouse and Greenwich Stud’s Greg Perry who also races last week’s MVRC G2 Sunline Stakes winner Nakaaya (Tiger Hill).

Snippetson (Snippets) was a Listed winner of the Eskimo Prince Hcp and Maurice McCarten Stakes before retiring to Widden in 2006.  He averaged 170 mares in each of his first four seasons at stud at a $7,700 service fee.

Fast Clip is a younger half-brother to the Johannesburg winners African Lily and Kauthar.  Their dam Hint Of Glory is a half-sister to G1 VRC Emirates Stakes winner Sky Cuddle (Snippets).

Stable jockey Nash Rawiller is confident Fast Clip would give a good account if given a chance in the AJC Derby.  “He relaxed beautifully and showed a really good turn of foot.  Jimmy Choux is a horse I have a lot of respect for but this bloke might be peaking at the right time.”
