Anatina became the 50th stakes winner by Fastnet Rock at Flemington on Saturday and the Coolmore Stud champion notched his 51st with Rock Hero an hour later at Randwick.
Anatina (3f Fastnet Rock – Quack by Magic Ring) is trained by Robert Smerdon and stepped up from a last-start Geelong maiden to claim a Listed victory in the Cap D’antibes Stakes (1000m). She races for part-owners Lakeview Resources and Phil Sly after changing hands for $460,000 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Rock Hero (3c Fastnet Rock – Gallant Tess by Galileo) blew the start and was forced to come from the back of the field to nail Liberty’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice) by a long head in the Dulcify Quality (1600m).
“He is a very special colt but is already looking at the girls,” trainer David Payne said. “I think we need to get a Group 1 with him quickly.”
Payne is hoping that comes as early as next Saturday in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick. The Rosehill based trainer also prepared his dam Gallant Tess to five wins including the G2 Chelmsford Stakes for owners John Cordina and Sandy Ward.
Gallant Tess has a yearling colt by Street Cry and she foaled a Redoute’s Choice filly in September.
Fastnet Rock is Australia’s most expensive stallion standing at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $275,000 (inc gst).
