Momentum continued to build during Day 2 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale when 129 yearlings sold for $9.90 million at an average of $76,798. The clearance rate is 78%.
Coolmore shuttler Fastnet Rock led the way on Day 1 and his progeny were again in demand on Tuesday accounting for three of the seven lots to top the $200,000 mark.
G W Racing went to $260,000 to secure a Fastnet Rock colt from the G2 performer Snow Hero. He was offered by Supreme Thoroughbreds.
That was matched when Redgum Racing signed for the Fastnet Rock – Thousand Veils filly. Grange Thoroughbreds sold the youngster who is from Zabeel stakeswinner Thousand Veils (Listed SAJC St Leger).
Wood Nook Farm’s Encosta De Lago colt from Ylang Ylang rounded out the top three when selling to Japan buyer Y Kubota for $230,000.
Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds was also a beneficiary of the rush for Fastnet Rock progeny. Its colt from Shelbourne Lass, who is the dam of stakes winner Elusive Touch, made $220,000.
Another highlight today was the demand for progeny of first season stallions Nadeem and Churchill Downs. The Nadeem colt from French bred Daylami mare Woman In White was knocked down to Japan’s Big Red Farm for $210,000. She was a part of the Makybe draft.
Blue Gum Farm stallion Churchill Downs had a colt from Dr Grace mare Spirit Of Grace sell to Anthony Cummings for $200,000. He is a younger half-brother G1 MVRC William Reid Stakes winner Turffontein (Johannesburg).
His full sister Emerald Downs won at Moonee Valley a month ago and then ran a brave second to subsequent Blue Diamond placegetter Masthead in the $250,000 Inglis Premier at Mornington.
“Tuesday was considerably stronger than Day 1 with some excellent results for vendors,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said. “There was generally more strength in the overall market. We expect that to continue with some of our best credentialed yearlings being sold on Wednesday.”
The Premier Sale gross was charging towards $20 million on Tuesday evening following a strong second session. Overall, sales total a tick over $19 million at an average of $71,697.
