Fastnet Rock grabs Group double at Moonee Valley

Fastnet Rock grabbed another stakes winning double at Moonee Valley on Friday night to increase his lead at the top of the Australian sires’ premiership.

The Coolmore shuttler’s progeny have earned $8.81 million this season which is a substantial lead over second placed Redoute’s Choice on $6.24 million.

Fastnet Rock filly Empress Rock made it back-to-back G2 wins with an all-the-way victory in the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m).  She had won the G2 Kewney Stakes earlier this month for trainer Bart Cummings and long time client Dato Tan Chin Nam.

Empress Rock is worth her weight in gold being out of a winning half-sister to champion sprinter Silent Witness.

Less than an hour later, Foxwedge completed a feature double for Fastnet Rock in the G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m).  The Sydney colt settled behind Hay List and Buffering before unleashing a devastating turn-of-foot to claim his first win at the elite level.

Foxwedge was a $925,000 buy for Dr Edmund Bateman at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  A trip to Royal Ascot is now on the cards for the up-and-coming sprinter in races like the G1 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) and G1 Diamond Jubilee (1200m).
