It’s taken a while for talented mare Impetuous to unleash her full potential but she went some way to fulfilling that promise in the LR Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong on Friday.
The Clarry Conners trained mare proved far too good when dashing away to win by more than two lengths. “She loves Wyong and that’s why I brought her back here,” Conners said. “It gives me a lot of satisfaction and I told Brenton (Avdulla) she could win.”
Impetuous (4m Fastnet Rock – Rash Promise by More Than Ready) looks to have come back from a winter break a much improved racehorse. She circled the leaders with a sprint from the back-half of the field to defeat the favourite Unimpeachable (Bradbury’s Luck) and long-shot Regal Thunder (Hussonet).
“We’ve got that little bit of black type with her now so it’s great,” Conners said. “The Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle looks another nice race for her next up.”
Owner Edmund Bateman paid $600,000 for the Mona Lisa winner at the Inglis Easter yearling sale and that made her the equal most expensive filly by Fastnet Rock sold in 2011. She is the first foal of a stakes-placed half-sister to G1 winner Demerger.
Impetuous is the 47th stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock who is Australia’s most expensive stallion. He stands at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $275,000.
