Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) and trainer Robbie Griffiths won with promising 3yo Piemonte at Sandown Lakeside on February 6 and they finished the month when Choisir sprinter Notable Choice saluted at Kyneton on February 28.
Piemonte is a son of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente and his first prep had also included a win at Sandown Hillside in November. He cost $105,000 at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
“Things didn’t go his way following that win late last year,” jockey Jamie Mott explained. “I tried riding him more quietly last start and the race just wasn’t run to suit so today I just rode him where he was happy.
“He’s just going to get better and better and is a nice horse in the making. The owners have been patient and they are reaping the rewards now.”
Ford and Griffiths signed for 11 yearlings during Book 1 of the Inglis Melbourne Premier this week. First on the shopping list was the Vancouver – Classic Music colt who cost $120,000 and is a half-brother to the city winners Tenorino (Sydney) and Classic Diva (Melbourne).
