FBAA wins with YPO

Whypeeo (I Am Invincible) will be set for the $10 Magic Millions Race Day after his return-to-form victory in the LR Gold Edition Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

The Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) graduate was beaten first-up at Canterbury earlier this month but was never in danger back home on Saturday.  He jumped straight to front and fought back in the straight to defeat the favourite Pierata by a short neck.

“There were excuses in Sydney,” trainer Toby Edmunds revealed.  “It was a windy night – he got stirred up and was slowly away.  I knew he would be fitter today and he’s a smart horse when right.

“He couldn’t go a yard when he was a colt and it wasn’t until we decided to geld him that he turned the corner.”

Whypeeo will start again in the G3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 30 before a decision is made whether to target the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) or $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) on January 13.

Blue Sky agent Julian Blaxland bought him for $200,000 at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  “He’s a tremendous athlete…a real stand out,” Blaxland told Aushorse.  “Very good looking and typical of the I Am Invincibles.

“The Whypeeo ownership group is anchored by Mark Sowerby who is on the board of Racing Queensland and has been a great supporter of Blue Sky since I kicked off 10 years ago.

“Another of the owners is Gary Diamond who has been hugely successful in the last few years with horses like Capitalist and Houtzen.  I’m always happy to get him in to one of my horses as he adds three legs to them!

“Mark organised a bunch of owners that are all new to racing and which are part of YPO (Young Presidents Group).”

Whypeeo was bred by Gold Coast local Yvonne Smith and is a younger half-brother to Meliora (G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes).  His Dundeel half-brother was bought by Astute Bloodstock (FBAA) for $250,000 at the 2017 NZB Karaka yearling sale.

Their dam Sunset Boulevard (Fasliyev) is now owned by WA breeder Ben Duncan and she was covered by Cable Bay (Invincible Spirit) at Woodside Park this season.
