Fernie raises capital for Capitalist filly on Gold Coast

Ascot trainer Luke Fernie is rising force in the west with strong stable support from clients who backed him to spend $925,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale this week.

Fernie paid $625,000 for the Siyouni (Fr) full-brother to Amelia’s Jewel (Lot 234) on Tuesday and he weighed in with another $300,000 for a well-bred Capitalist filly (Lot 855) on Friday.

“We’re delighted to be taking home another quality lot from the Gold Coast Sale,” Fernie said last night.  “It’s a bloodline we know plenty about!  She’s a half-sister to our own Russian To The Bar and millionaire mare Kissonallforcheeks.”

Offered by Newhaven Park (as agent), the Capitalist – Rosie Rocket filly was sold on behalf of Dawson Stud owner Graham Daws.  Fernie prepares Russian To The Bar (Russian Revolution) for a syndicate managed by Daws for wins in the LR Challenge Stakes (1500m) and LR Lex Piper Stakes (1800m) at Ascot.

Daws bred and sold Kissonallforcheeks (Written Tycoon) for $120,000 through the Newhaven Park consignment to the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She earned over $1.70 million while winning to Group 2 level in the 2022 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Rosie Rocket (Blackfriars) had won the LR Starstruck Classic (1600m) and LR La Trice Classic (1800m) during the 2011 Ascot summer carnival and she has a filly on the ground by Dundeel (NZ).

Dawson Stud also sold a Pinatubo – Muy Bien filly (Lot 702) for $150,000 on Thursday to Dalziel Bloodstock and trainer Peter Moody.  The dam was a Rosehill winner who hails from a Group 1 family nurtured by Gooree Park.

WA buyers outlaid $2.08 million on 7 yearlings during Book 1 of this week’s Gold Coast Magic Millions.  That eclipsed last year’s spend of $1.59 million for 11 yearlings.  This year’s Book 2 catalogue comprises another 380 lots on Sunday and Monday.
