Ferocity double clinches Toowoomba title for Webb

Mark Webb successfully defended his Toowoomba trainers’ crown with four of the seven winners at the final Clifford Park meeting of the season on Saturday night.

The Toowoomba trainers’ premiership title had been hotly contested with Webb, 10-time winner Michael Nolan and former Sydney trainer Patrick Sexton all vying for the title.

“Two years ago Mick Nolan’s horse beat mine by a nose,” Webb recalled.  “But tonight was a different feeling.  I thought I entered the horses that would have the best chance, and we’ve been lucky enough to win.”

Webb finished the season on 44 wins, while Nolan and Sexton trailed with 40 and 38 wins respectively.

Webb’s odds-on favourite Emoticon (Ferocity) won Race 1 and the stable continued on its winning way with Hyde Park (Thorn Park), Tomcat (Ferocity) and Starburst (Danehill Dancer).

Oaklands Stud sire Ferocity sired two of the final night’s winners and Oaklands owner Neville Stewart has been a strong supporter of the stable in recent years.

“The bottom line is that no matter where you are, when you finish on top it shows,” Webb said.  “There are a lot of good horses and trainers in Toowoomba.”

Phillip Wolfgram finished a clear winner of the Toowoomba jockeys’ premiership with 53 wins.
