Frenetica took advantage of a suicidal fight for the front to win the Bert Bryant Hcp (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The grey filly was ready to pounce when Darley filly Meredith caved in approaching the corner.
Frenetica (3f Ferocity – All Legs by Jade Robbery) is trained by Danny O’Brien and she made it three wins and over $84,000 in stakes with a comfortable victory over Turnitup (Dane Shadow) and External (Galileo).
O’Brien trained Frenetica’s sire Ferocity during a short but successful racing career and bought the filly from his first crop at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She was from his home base at Oaklands Stud and made $80,000.
O’Brien has a high opinion of Ferocity and his ability to sire winners after training him to a G2 victory in the 2005 Ascot Vale Stakes at Flemington. There are 22 winners of 38 races from his first crop and there have been another 5 more winners from his second crop.
Frenetica’s dam All Legs is an unraced half-sister to Caulfield stakes winner Given (Canny Lad). She has yearling filly by Ferocity and foaled another filly by the Oaklands resident in September.
Ferocity is a brother to the dam of O’Brien’s current headline-horse Star Witness who is already signed an sealed for stud duty.
Star Witness (Starcraft) was a G1 winner of the Blue Diamond at two and the VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes as a three year-old. His next port of call is Royal Ascot before retiring to Widden Stud later this year.
