Final curtain call for Black Caviar

The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) has ranked Black Caviar the world’s top thoroughbred for the first half of 2013.

Now retired after an unbeaten 25 start career, Black Caviar won the VRC Black Caviar Lightning Stakes on February 16, MVRC William Reid Stakes on March 22 and ATC T J Smith Stakes on April 13.

Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) earned a ranking of 130 to head the Longines sponsored list compiled for the six months ending July 14.  She had been rated World Champion Sprinter for the third year in a row by the IFHA at the end of 2012.

Next on the 2013 leader-board were Wise Dan 129, Game On Dude and Fort Larned 126, and Animal Kingdom 125.  Wise Dan is undefeated in three starts in 2013 with a pair of G1 victories and Game On Dude picked up the sixth G1 victory of his career in the Hollywood Gold Cup on July 6.

Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Fort Larned posted an easy win in the Stephen Foster Hcp at Churchill Downs on June 15 and Animal Kingdom won this year’s Dubai World Cup.
