The G2 NZB Wellington Guineas has attracted a large field of 17 three-year-olds vying for a coveted spot in the NZ 2000 Guineas next month.
The G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas is scheduled for November 10 at Riccarton.
The Wellington Guineas has been won by a host of high profile three-year-olds in recent years including Darci Brahma (Danehill), Jokers Wild (Black Minnaloushe), Barside (Tobougg) and President Lincoln (O’Reilly).
This year’s field will see five stakes winners in search of a Group 2 – Move Faster (Keeper), Swiper the Fox (Align), Platinum Kingdom (Magnus), Misstrum (Stratum) and Twilight Granita (Iffraaj).
Adding to the intrigue, Neo (One Cool Cat), Batman (Falkirk), Silverdale (Castledale), Zinko (Shinko King) and Perfect Start (Perfectly Ready) have all placed at stakes level ensuring this year’s NZB Wellington Guineas is a wide open affair.
The field will see the progressive colt Wowowow (Thano) make his stakes debut and five fillies take to the course, headed by stakes winners Misstrum and Twilight Granita.
The Trentham meeting will also feature the LR Wellesley 2YO Stakes (1000m). There are five Karaka Million nominated horses in New Zealand’s first 2YO stakes race of the season.
