Fiorentina tops Perth Winter Sale

Mares in foal to Sunspeed sires Dick Turpin (Ire), War Chant (USA) and Alfred Nobel (Ire) topped the leader-board at the Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale on Sunday.

Korilya Stud’s dispersal provided the highlights with Fiorentina (in foal to Mungrup Stud shuttler Dick Turpin) the most expensive at $50,000. The Dubai Destination mare is a half-sister to G1 Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso (Dubawi) and she was purchased by Tony Williams of Tubba Bloodstock.

Williams, who also acts as Bloodstock Manager for Hunter Valley stud Newgate Farm, said the mare will foal down in Western Australia. “She’s due in August so we were a bit hesitant sending her across so late in her pregnancy,” he said. “The Dick Turpin foal will probably be sold down the track at Inglis or the Magic Millions.”

Next best on the leader-board was Calico Blue (Serheed) from the Lynward Park consignment. She was offered in foal to Alfred Nobel and made $40,000 to the bid of Geisel Park Stud.

Korilya Stud also accounted for the third and fourth highest priced lots.  Rosmopolitan (Verglas) was sold in foal to Yarradale shuttler War Chant for $24,000 to agent Michael Flannery.

Maewest (Second Empire) was also in foal to War Chant when changing hands for $22,000.  She is the dam of Perth stakes performer Rusty Peaches and was purchased by Magic Millions acting for a WA client.

Overall, 146 lots sold for turnover of $602,700.
