First crop Plucks catalogued for Gold Coast

Vinery Stud has catalogued 28 yearlings for the Gold Coast Magic Millions and among them are the first crop of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Pluck and the second crop of Champion USA sire Congrats.

The Scone nursery has a magnificent record at the January sale with graduates the calibre of champion filly Atlantic Jewel and recent spring carnival feature winners Rubic and Commanding Jewel.

PLUCK (USA) stands alongside his champion sire More Than Ready and he has 9 yearlings going under the hammer including 5 from Vinery.  “He was booked out after parading for the first time back in 2012,” Vinery’s Adam White recalled.  “Everybody could see his quality – he’s a magnificent looking horse and we’re very excited about his prospects at stud.”

White has highlighted the following Pluck yearlings being prepped for the Gold Coast;

Lot 114 Pluck – Bonded filly
Nice athletic filly with plenty of leg and scope.  Half-sister to Afleet Esprit who has won two stakes races this season including the G2 Thousand Guineas.  Trainer David Hayes will set her for the G1 Oakleigh Plate in February.

Her Magic Millions half-sister is also bred on the very successful More Than Ready – Danehill cross.

Lot 199 Pluck – Diamond Cove filly
A strong thick-set filly from the stakes winning mare Diamond Cove.  Her first two foals to race – by Vinery sires Red Ransom and Testa Rossa – are both winners.

Lot 584 Pluck – Saigon Moonlight colt
Strong forward colt and a great representation of the quality of the Plucks.  He is from a sister to the dam of champion sprinter Lankan Rupee.  It’s also the extended family of Lonhro.

CONGRATS (USA) was embraced by our leading trainers when his first crop paraded at the majors earlier this year.

Team Hawkes paid $120,000 for a colt that’s subsequently been named Chui and there were other six-figure colts that have been registered by trainers Gary Portelli (Wide Acclaim) and John Moloney (Dark Ensign).

Gary Moore also weighed in with $155,000 for a Congrats – Talons Shown colt at the Magic Millions 2YO Sale in September.  He is a half-brother to David Payne’s promising Big Brown stayer Bomber Brown.  Payne has three Congrats two year-olds on the books at Rosehill.

Congrats (A P Indy) was Champion USA freshman sire and his current two year-olds – the first crop bred in Kentucky – includes 16 individual winners and earnings of $1.69 million this year.

Top Decile leads that division after finishing second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last month.  Trainer Al Stall will begin her 2015 Kentucky Oaks campaign in the LR Rachel Alexander Stakes at Fair Grounds in February.

Congrats also has a Kentucky Derby candidate according to Toasting Master’s trainer Dale Romans.  The front-running colt won by four lengths at Churchill Downs on November 8 and then doubled up under the Twin Spires last Saturday.

There are five colts by Congrats in the Vinery consignment for the Magic Millions and among the highlights is the half-brother to Stirling Grove;

Lot 351 Congrats – Kalamata colt
Strong, early-running type from the NZ stakes winner Kalamata.  This makes him a half-brother to Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Stirling Grove who has banked over $500,000.  Kalamata is a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 Emirates Stakes winner Hucklebuck.

MORE THAN READY (USA) was credited with his 134th stakes winner at Gulfstream Park on Saturday courtesy of Consumer Credit.  The Vinery champion has another quality draft catalogued for the Magic Millions with the following pen-pix by Adam White

Lot 216 More Than Ready – Element Of Danger colt
Lovely colt and a great example of a wonderful family.  His mother Element of Danger is a winning sister to Australian Horse Of The Year Typhoon Tracy and emerging young stallion Red Element.

Lot 371 More Than Ready – Lady Diva filly
Lovely looking filly with great scope and quality from a family is filled with black type winners.  Her dam is a daughter of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lady Jakeo and she’s also related to Group 1 winning mare Mrs Onassis.

Lot 528 More Than Ready – Prerequisite colt
Quality looker and very athletic.  From former smart Sydney race mare Prerequisite who is a half-sister to Group 1 winning sprinter Gold Trail.

Lot 559 More Than Ready – Red Queen filly
Tough filly with strength and scope and looks a readymade racehorse.  Another More Than Ready – Danehill cross through Sydney-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Red Queen who has already foaled G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Luke’s Luke.
