First foal for Wilander

The first foal by former Cornerstone Stud stallion Wilander arrived on Friday morning.  The chestnut filly from General Nediym mare Vermilion was bred by long-term Lindsay Pk / Cornerstone client Robert Hill Smith.

Wilander (Exceed And Excel) entered stud in 2010 and proved to be sub-fertile with only 20 of his first 55 mares getting in foal.

Subsequently gelded, he is now trained by David Hayes and finished fourth to Warm Love at Flemington last month.  He will start second-up in the Listed MVRC Printhouse Graphics Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The Cornerstone roster this year comprises Hussonet, Shrewd Rhythm, Good Journey, Reaan, Barely a Moment and De Beers.
