First northern hemisphere winner by Showcasing

Haunui Farm shuttler Showcasing (GB) sired his initial winner in England on Tuesday.

The Bill Turner trained colt Abscent Friends won the British Stallion Studs Maiden Stakes (1000m) on the all-weather track at Southwell.  He made virtually all the pace and, when shaken up by Ryan While at the furlong, kept on strongly to score by over a length from Spindle (Dubai Destination) and Basil The Great (Panis).

Abscent Friends (2c Showcasing – Lucky Dip by Tirol) is a half-brother to 7 winners including Fortunately (Forzando), a Listed winner at Sandown and Del Mar.

Showcasing stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud in Hampshire and Haunui Farm’s Chitty family own a 50% interest in the son of Oasis Dream.

A Juddmonte homebred, he was a precocious colt winning a Yarmouth maiden by three lengths and then jumping several grades to the G2 Gimcrack Stakes (1200m) at York which he won in juvenile course record time of 69.28s.

Resuming at three, Showcasing raced against older horses in the G2 Duke Of York Stakes and was not disgraced when a half-length runner-up to Prime Defender (Bertolini).  A hock injury then brought his career to a close after just seven starts.

“He’s built a lot like his father Oasis Dream,” trainer John Gosden said.  “He’s very laid back and was certainly the best Oasis Dream I’ve prepared.”

Showcasing’s first NZ bred yearlings fetched up to $180,000 at Karaka and Haunui has catalogued his colt from Della Mimosa (Lot 512) for the Inglis Easter Sale on Thursday.  He is a half-brother to recent Flemington stakes winner Adamantium.
