First Racetree winner for Greenwood Lake

Racetree stallion Greenwood Lake sired his first Australian winner when Kate’s Message was successful in the Cup Marquee Selling Fast Hcp (1350m) at Ipswich on Thursday.

Kate’s Message (2f Greenwood Lake – Betty Blockbuster by Zabeel) was making her debut and she motored home to win running away in near class-record time.  A paddock accident almost saw Kate’s Message not make the track after she fetched $100,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

“Peter Moody purchased the filly but unfortunately she hurt herself,” Racetree Managing Director Kevin Dixon recalled.  “I took her back and gave her to Kelly Schweida in Brisbane.”

Greenwood Lake is proving very popular among breeders.  He is a three-quarter brother to Success Express and has sired 93 winners to date at a 65% winners to runners strike-rate in North America.  He has been based at Racetree since 2006.

Dixon believes Kates Message has the talent to go to the next level.  “She’s a possible Oaks filly this time next season.  She’s typical of the breed.  I believe there is a key to the Greenwood Lakes – they need to be ridden cold to perform to their ability.”

Kate’s Message is from an unraced sister to G1 One Thousand Guineas winner Inaflury.  Her dam has a yearling colt by Hotel Grand and a filly foal by Fastnet Rock.

Greenwood Lake (Meadowlake) was a G1 winning juvenile defeating More Than Ready and Chief Seattle.  He stood the 2009 season at Racetree for $8,800 (inc gst).
