First stakes winner by Red Giant

Puddifoot has provided Westbury Stud’s world record-holder Red Giant with his first stakes win at Gulfstream Park.

The grey filly scored a six length victory in the LR Juvenile Filly Sprint (1300m) at Gulfstream Park in Florida on Saturday.  It was her second win in as many starts after a five length debut in September.

Puddifoot (2f Red Giant – Theresa’s Tizzy by Cee’s Tizzy) settled just off the pace before jockey Paco Lopez angled her into the clear for an unimpeded run to the line.

Red Giant (Giant’s Causeway) has made an impressive start in the USA siring 13 individual winners from only 25 starters.  He shuttles from Three Chimneys to Gerry Harvey’s stud in Karaka.

The timing couldn’t have been better with 12 NZ bred Red Giants to be offered at the NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka next week and Westbury reports the feedback from breakers and trainers has been extremely pleasing.

The Jim Collett trained Red Striker was an impressive trial winner at Cambridge in October.

Red Giant (USA) was a Group 1 winner of the 2008 Clement Hirsh Turf Memorial (2000m) in which he set a world record of 1.57.16s.  He won 6 of 12 starts that also included the G2 Virginia Derby and G2 Fourstardave Hcp.

Red Giant stands for an $11,000 service fee at Westbury Stud with no fee payable until June 1, 2014.
