The LR Prix Roland de Chambure (1400m) was the feature race at Chantilly on Friday and the juvenile contest was won in convincing style by Sepoy’s daughter Baileys Showgirl.
Baileys Showgirl (2f Sepoy – Tanguista by War Chant) is the first stakes winner for her sire who shuttles to Darley Kelvinside for a $33,000 (inc gst) fee.
Despite missing the break, Baileys Showgirl soon picked up once asked for her effort and swept past her rivals to win by two lengths from Red Onion. She was bred in France and had won a Hamilton maiden for trainer Mark Johnston in June before taking on a much tougher assignment in Paris.
The French stakes winner was offered by her breeder Ecurie Des Monceaux at last year’s Arqana October Yearlings Sale and was purchased by Johnston for 22,000 euros. She is a half-sister to three winners including the Grand Slam stakes winning filly Tribune (LR Deauville Prix Ronde de Nuit).
Sepoy (Elusive Quality) was a Group 1 winner of the Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper, Manikato Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes and has sired 3 winners in Europe and 5 in Australia from his first dual-hemisphere crops.
