First winner by Globetrotter

Globetrotter (USA) sired his first winner when Giramondo scored a front-running victory in the RKO Birthday Bash Plate (1400m) at Geelong on Sunday.

The Colin Scott trained gelding was appearing for the third time since making his debut less than a month ago.  He held on to win by a length from the favourite Berkeley Gardens (Bernardini).

Giramondo (3g Globetrotter – Bianca Gold by Bianconi) is a homebred for Michael Scully and is from an unraced half-sister to Adelaide winner Purple Haze (Dash For Cash).

Shepparton-based breeder Damian White stands Globetrotter at Brackley Park in Avenel for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.  “He’s a son of Street Cry out of a Seattle Slew mare,” White said.  “He’s been covering around 35 mares a season and has only had three runners to date.”

Globetrotter won the G3 Grey Breeders’ Cup at Woodbine and also finished runner-up in the G1 Charles Whittingham Memorial at Santa Anita.  Street Cry got him from a half sister to stakes winners Devotion Unbridled and Snow Cone.

“Everyone with a Globetrotter reckons they go alright,” White explained.  “They’re attractive, correct and will start showing up at a mile and beyond.”
