First winner by Keano

Suspense kicked off his career with an easy victory at Gosford on Tuesday and it was also the first win for his sire Keano (NZ).

The Snowden Racing three year-old landed a gamble with an on-pace performance in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden (1100m).  He had won a Warwick Farm trial in April and firmed from $5 into a $3.40 favourite on debut.

Peter Snowden was on familiar turf when he paid $28,000 for Suspense at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  The former Darley trainer prepared his older half-brother Mental (Lonhro) to a Group 1 victory in the 2012 Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington.

Suspense (3g Keano – Intrigues by Night Shift) was bred and sold by Salamander Park which is located 30km south – east of Euroa in the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges.

Melbourne businessman Philip Anderson retired Keano to Salamander Park in 2011.  A NZ bred son of Pins, he was trained by Danny O’Brien for a Listed victory in the 2009 QTC Lightning Stakes as well as wins at Flemington (4) and Moonee Valley.

His only other first-crop starter to date has been Sunshine Coast runner-up Boys From the Bush.

Salamander Park covers 48ha and is currently on the market.  “The daily commute from Melbourne to Merton grew tiresome after five years,” Anderson said.  “I prefer to spend more time with my young family but will still be involved in the industry, albeit on a smaller scale.”
