Former NSW based stallion Lone Wolf was represented by his first winner at Armidale on Sunday.
His three year-old gelding Sunofwolf scored a determined victory in the Dasha’s Hardware Maiden Hcp (1300m). “The horse only arrived up here from John O’Shea last month,” Inverell trainer Wayne Oakenfull said earlier this week.. “He was in tip-top condition and I just kept him ticking over.”
Sunofwolf (3g Lone Wolf – Ultimate Edge by Racer’s Edge) is raced by a syndicate headed by part-owner and breeder Tom Simpson. “It was a good win at Armidale,” Oakenfull explained. “He had to work early to cross from a wide gate and I think he can go on and win a few more now.”
Lone Wolf (Encosta de Lago) died after covering one book at Simpson’s property in 2009.
He was bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds from One World who won the G3 VRC Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes exactly 10 years ago this weekend. Second-dam Prawn Cocktail (USA) is a younger half-sister to Royal Academy and the dam of Storm Cat.
