Bullarook Park resident Lucas Cranach (Ger) sired his first winner at Stawell on Monday.
Melbourne Cup winner Michelle Payne trained and rode his 3yo gelding Jukila to a narrow victory in the Parkview Hotel Maiden (1600m). They were headed at the top of the straight but fought back to defeat NZ-bred colt The Endorser (Highly Recommended) by a long-neck.
“He’s a lovely horse and will make a nice stayer,” Payne said. “And he’s the first winner for our stable clients Ern and Ronda Clarke.”
Jukila was sold through the 2016 NZB Ready to Run Sale for $36,000. His USA-bred dam Armure Royale (Woodman) is a daughter of Arc de Triomphe winner All Along.
Lucas Cranach is by Sadler’s Wells-line sire Mamool (In The Wings) and at the 2011 spring carnival finished fifth in the Caulfield Cup and third in the Melbourne Cup. He returned the following year to win the G2 Peter Young Stakes against a high-class field at Caulfield.
Avenel-based Bullarook Park manager Malcolm Boyd stands Lucas Cranach for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee.
