First winner by Reliable Man

Westbury Park freshman Reliable Man (GB) sired his first winner on Saturday when Belle Du Nord bolted in at Trentham.

The David Browne-trained filly cleared out for a three-length victory in the Richardson Racing 2YO Premier (1200m).  “She’s a lovely, big type and one of nicest types I’ve sat on for a while,” jockey Lisa Allpress said.  “She gave me a really good feel and just powered through them.”

Belle Du Nord (2f Reliable Man – Bankside Belle by Volksraad) is expected to progress to the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes at Awapuni on April 1.  She made $50,000 at the 2016 NZB Karaka yearling sale for the Northern Club Racing Syndicate which is managed by David Williams QC.

“She’s always shown us a lot,” Browne said after the filly produced an explosive turn of foot in the straight.  “We had expected her to run well in the (G2) Matamata Breeders’ Stakes last time but she didn’t fire.  It’s good to see her back – that was very, very good win.”

Reliable Man (Dalakhani) was a top-level galloper in both hemispheres winning the G1 French Derby and G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.  He shuttles between Westbury Stud in New Zealand and Gestut Rottgen in Germany.
