First winner by Roc de Cambes

Roc de Cambes (NZ) moved off the mark when his filly Reminisce made a good impression first time out at Otaki on Thursday.

The Oaks Stud resident is the latest son of Red Ransom to sire a winner.

Reminisce (2f Roc de Cambes – Animate by Zabeel) is trained by Graeme and Debbie Rogerson for the Cambridge nursery.   She defeated stablemate Wawrinka (Swiss Ace) by over a length with Platinum Express (Showcasing) another two lengths in arrears.

“She was only the stallion’s fourth starter so it’s a huge thrill,” The Oaks general manager Rick Williams said.  “It certainly wasn’t a big surprise either as she worked up well with Wawrinka during the week.

“She jumped well and trailed the leader, did everything Darryl (Bradley) asked of her and got out at the right time.  There’s a lot of speed in the family.”

Roc de Cambes was a Group 2 winner in Japan and is a half-brother to G2 Hawke’s Bay and Wellington Guineas winner Keyora (Bachelor Duke) and G1 New Zealand Derby runner-up Roman Chariot (Faltaat).

There were just two starters among the first crop of two year-olds by Roc de Cambes last season.  “We’ve backed him with our own mares,” Williams said.  “It’s nice to get a two-year-old winner by him and I expect to see more of them and his three-year-olds coming out between now and the New Year.”
