One-time Independent Stallions shuttler U S Ranger sired his first winner at Delaware Park on Saturday.
Sea Bubble (2f U S Ranger – Lovely Martha by Storm Bird) scored by a length at her third start and her first on turf over 1600m. She is a half-sister to Group 1 star Sand Springs.
U S Ranger (USA) replaced Artie Schiller at short notice at Victorian-based Independent Stallions in 2010. Both stallions stand at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.
One of the last sons of legendary sire Danzig to retire to stud, he was unbeaten at two at Bordeaux and Toulouse. Resuming as a three year-old, he won the G3 Prix Djebel at Maisons-Laffitte and finished second in the G3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
A blindingly fast front-runner, he developed into a high-class sprinter at four with G1 placings in the July Cup at Newmarket and Prix de la Foret at Longchamp. “Speed was his forte,” is how Timeform described US Ranger and added. “He is a big, strong, good topped colt.”
His dam My Annette (Roberto) is a three-quarter sister to Dynaformer.
U S Ranger covered 47 mares at an $11,000 (inc gst) fee at Independent Stallions in 2010. His first-crop yearlings were in short supply at the yearling sales earlier this year.
Inglis has catalogued two U S Ranger colts for the Sydney Ready 2 Race 2YO Sale at Newmarket in October. Lot 11 is from Achtung Baby(Sarab) and Lot 149 is out of Sasalina (Arazi).
