Sea Spray notched the first win for Darley sire Von Costa De Hero in the Elusive Style Maiden Plate (1100m) at Kynteon on Tuesday.

The John Moloney trained filly settled midfield and then flew home from the turn to win by a length.  She was racing first-up after a 22 week spell following a second on debut at Sandown and fourth at Caulfield in April.

“There are better wins in store for her,” Moloney said.   “She has always shown ability and will head towards better company now she has broken the ice.”

Sea Spray (2f Von Costa De Hero – Black Pearl by The Commander) made $26,000 when offered by Fulmen Park on behalf of breeder Richard Waldron at the 2013 Inglis Super VOBIS Melbourne yearling sale.  She is a half-sister to winners by More Than Ready, Denon and Elvstroem.

Waldron kept a share in a syndicate that also includes Graeme & Maureen Griffiths, Ross O’Brien, Gary & Di Pinnuck, Wayne Preston, David & Chris Sampson, Anthony Rogers and Pat Ryan.

Von Costa De Hero (Encosta de Lago) was a $1.20 million Easter yearling and won the G2 Victorian Sires’ Produce Stakes on top of Group 1 placings in the Golden Slipper, Caulfield Guineas and Australian Guineas.

Von Costa De Hero stands for a $5,500 (inc gst) fee at Darley’s Northwood Park in Seymour.
