First winner for Captain Sonador

Capitanear scored a fitting first win for Captain Sonador in the CCS Insurance Solutions Maiden (1100m) at Gold Coast on Saturday.

The winning colt is a promising homebred for Bahram Stud owner Greg Wagner and sports the same colours that Captain Sonador carried to a Group 1 victory in the 2010 Epsom Hcp at Randwick.  He became the first Queenslander to win the Big Mile since legendary ‘Goondiwindi Grey’ Gunsynd.

Captain Sonador (Shamardal) stood three seasons at Raheen Stud but died after a freak paddock accident in February 2014.

Capitanear (2c Captain Sonador – Spanish Sister by Mossman) finished from the back of the field to break his maiden by a half-length from Mr Epic (Husson) and Favoured Grace (Monaco Consul).

Another Captain Sonador with his hoof on the till is the Desleigh Forster trained colt I’m Belucci.  He was an eye-catching second to Craiglea Wandoo last month and will return to Doomben next Saturday, February 27.

Captain Sonador has 27 lots from his penultimate-crop entered for the Magic Millions Gold Coast March yearling sale.  Among the Raheen draft is a sister to I’m Belucci (Lot 35).
