First winner for Deadly Storm

Brackley Park freshman Deadly Storm sired his first winner when Stormpatch scored an on-pace victory in the Heart Foundation 2yo Plate (1120m) at Launceston on Sunday.

Stormpatch (2g Deadly Storm-Fortune’s Fantasy by Zoffany) showed early speed to find the front from a wide gate and when rider Kelvin Sanderson changed gears in the straight he responded magnificently.  The youngster scored by the best part of two lengths from Rutherglen Rhul (El Maggiore) and Chipofftheoldblock (My Lad).

Trainer David Miller was delighted with the win and said it was not unexpected.  “He missed the start on debut in Hobart and then got his tongue over the bit.  I reckon he has a lot of potential and his main mission is the Tasmanian Sires’ Produce Stakes.

“Stormpatch showed ability from the outset but he wasn’t one of my favourite horses,” Miller revealed.  “He dumped me while being educated and I copped a busted collarbone so I guess he owed me a win.

Deadly Storm (USA) is a son of Storm Cat from G3 Fair Grounds Oaks winner Brushing Groom.  He stands Damian White’s Brackley Park for a $5,500 fee.

Stormpatch is a half-brother to winners by Covetous, Integra, Danehill Dancer and Sequalo.  Their dam Fortune’s Fantasy hails from the family of Karioi (Emperor).  She was owned by the late Vic Hayes and her descendants included the top class Sydney sprinters Constant Rhythm (Sostenuto), Count Rajan (Sky Diver) and Vain Karioi (Vain).

Deadly Storm will be joined by Street Cry stallion Globetrotter (USA) at the Avenel nursery this year.  He was a G3 winner of the 2YO Grey Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Woodbine.

Globetrotter was sidelined with a leg injury for the duration of his classic year but returned to win a Santa Anita allowance 12 months ago.  He aggravated the injury in the Group 1 Charles Whittingham Memorial and that curtailed his career after just six starts.

Globetrotter will stand for an introductory fee of $8,800 (inc gst).
