First winner for Glass Harmonium

Blue Gum Farm sire Glass Harmonium (Ire) moved off the mark at stud with The Grey Crusader at Launceston on Wednesday.

The 3yo grey gelding was a game winner of the Kevin Sharkie Plate (1600m) and the victory clinched the Australian Female Jockey Championship for NSW visitor Winona Costin.

The Grey Crusader was bred by Blue Gum staff members Lisa & Michael Matthews and is just one of a half-dozen foals from his sire’s first crop.  His dam Flautist (Hennessy) is a half-sister to Moonee Valley stakes winner Cinq Rouge (Red Ransom).

Glass Harmonium (Verglas) was initially trained by Sir Michael Stoute to win the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes (2000m) in England before arriving at Mike Moroney’s Melbourne stable for a local career topped by a Group 1 triumph in the Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
