Westbury Stud’s world record holder Red Giant was represented by his first winner at Penn National on Thursday evening.
Snow Leopard (2c Red Giant – Brazilian by Stravinksy) won on debut over 1000 metres nosing out a pair of rivals on the dirt. He was bred in Kentucky by John Fort’s Peachtree Stables which also raced Red Giant. Coincidentally, Snow Leopard was Red Giant’s first born when foaled on February 2, 2010.
Red Giant (Giant’s Causeway) was a G1 winner of the 2008 Clement Hirsh Turf Memorial (2000m) in which he set a world record of 1.57.16s. He won 6 of 12 starts that included other features in the G2 Virginia Derby and G2 Fourstardave Hcp for earnings that topped $1.09 million.
Giant’s Causeway, the sire of Red Giant, was one of the very best performers of his time and is now making a great name for himself as an international sire of sires. His Champion son Shamardal has G1 winning sons Captain Sonador and Lope De Vega standing in Queensland.
Red Giant (Giant’s Causeway) shuttles from Three Chimneys to Gerry Harvey’s Karaka property which is also home to Makfi (Dubawi), Redwood (High Chaparrel), Captain Rio (Pivotal), Swiss Ace (Secret Savings), Cecconi (Encosta de Lago), Faltaat (Mr Prospector) and Postponed (Summer Squall).
