Beauty Flash confirmed his status as Hong Kong’s top miler with a resounding victory in the G1 Stewards’ Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Beauty Flash (5g Golan – Wychwood Rose by Volksraad) was coming off a G1 victory in the Hong Kong Mile last month and trainer Tony Cruz will now stretch him out to 1800m for the Dubai Duty Free in March.
The NZ bred gelding was sold for $65,000 by Halidon Hill Farm at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka. He won a Te Rapa maiden in January 2009 and has gone from strength to strength in Hong Kong for owner Kwok Siu Ming.
Beauty Flash was taken the lead early in the straight on Sunday and kept finding to defeat Sunny King (Desert Sun) and Irian (Tertullian) by a neck and a neck.
Winning jockey Gerald Mosse paid tribute to his battling qualities after dismounting. “What I asked him to do, he did. Tony (Cruz) told me to give him a chance to breathe and he will turn the engine on himself and he was right.
“There were horses coming at us but I didn’t want to use the whip. He has such a big heart and fought them off.”
Beauty Flash is by Spectrum sire Golan who shuttled to Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand. His only other Kiwi bred G1 winner has been Victorian Derby winner Kibbutz.
