Darley freshman Discreet Cat has sired one right out of the box in Florida. His filly Discreet Dancer broke a track record at Gulfstream Park at her first start on Saturday.
Discreet Dancer (2c Discreet Cat – West Side Dancer by Gone West) clocked 62.34s for 1100m to win by more than 9 lengths. He raced on the pace before powering clear to cut the previous mark held by Paizano.
The chestnut colt impressed jockey Javier Castellano with his professional performance. “He’s a really nice horse and does everything the right way. He does it so easy and I didn’t ask him at all.”
Discreet Dancer is trained by Todd Pletcher for owner-breeder E Paul Robsham and is related to several Australian stallions. His second dam Bering Cruise (Danzig) is a three-quarter-sister to Foxhound and a half-sister to Bite The Bullet and the dam of Duke Of Marmalade.
Discreet Cat (Forestry) was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed after winning his maiden by three lengths at Saratoga on the 2005 Travers Stakes undercard. He returned at three to win the G2 UAE Derby by six lengths and returned home to blitz the G2 Jerome Hcp by 10 lengths.
He signed off an unbeaten three year-old campaign with a G1 victory in the Cigar Mile equalling Easy Goer’s track-record of 1:32.40s. Discreet Cat stands at Darley Kentucky for $17,500 fee.
Discreet Cat has sired 14 first-crop winners so far this year. He got off the mark when his first starter Son de America scored at Santa Anita in April.
