The NZ Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year for 2009-10 has resulted in a four way tie. Three of the fillies are graduates of the 2008 Karaka yearling sale.
Brown Eyed Grace (Van Nistelrooy) won the first of the four-race series in the Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes in September. Rodger Finlay purchased her from Wentwood Grange for $90,000 at Karaka.
Chaparella (High Chaparral) claimed maximum points in the Listed NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes in March and she was joined at the top of the leader-board by North Island raiders Mercury Mistress (No Excuse Needed) and Ishiabeel (Ishiguru) last month.
Mercury Mistress won the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton on April 10. She was a $20,000 buy from Waikato Stud. Ishiabeel won the Listed NZB Warstep Stakes on April 24. She was a $58,000 buy for Roger James from the Chequers Stud consignment at Karaka.
The Beekeeper (Keeper), Grandissima (Savabeel), Te Akau Rose (Thorn Park), Champagne Joy (Thorn Park), Cat Woman (Scardee Cat), Howbaddouneedit (Howbaddouwantit) and Sandie (Footstepsinthesand) all scored points in the series. A possible tie-break condition is being considered for inclusion in 2010-11.
