Mogumber Park struck the first blow for Perth’s two year-olds when Fremond was a very impressive winner of the Initial Plate (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.
Fremond (2c Not A Single Doubt – Fiddly by Red Ransom) powered home after a poor start to score by a half-length from Tworeen (Husson Lightning) and Glitterbell (Proart).
“These early two year-old races can be won or lost at the start and he didn’t get away cleanly,” trainer Neville Parnham said. “But he travelled well and finished the race off nicely when he saw daylight.”
Parnham bought the colt for $55,000 from the Mogumber Park draft at the Perth Magic Millions earlier this year he’s already paid that back with $65,900 in prizemoney and Westspeed bonus. He is raced by former WATC committeeman Bob Pearson and his son Todd who won a swimming gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Fremond is by Arrowfield Stud sire Not A Single Doubt from Fiddly who is a half-sister to Group 2 winners Piper Star (Carlyon Cup) and Melora (Hollindale Cup).
Mogumber Park owners Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey have a yearling filly from Fiddly by their resident sire Natural Blitz.
