French premiums boost Arqana August Sale

Demand for French-bred yearlings eligible for the lucrative owners’ premiums was the driving force behind Part 2 of Arqana’s August Sale in Deauville on Wednesday.

Colts by Acclamation (ex Compulsive Quality), Zamindar (ex Jarhes) and Marju (ex Larme) topped the leader-board at 150,000 euros.

A total of 16 yearlings broke the six-figure barrier at an average of 61,900 euros.  The most encouraging aspect of the day’s trade was the consistently strong clearance rate, which hovered around the 80% mark.

“It just goes to show how resilient this industry is,” agent Anthony Stroud said.  “This sale is lacking several big players yet the market has been strong.”

Prime Equestrian paid equal top price for the Acclamation colt that was offered by Haras d’Etreham.  He is from the family of champion Habitat filly Sigy.

Agent Alain Decrion also paid 150,000 euros for the Zamindar colt from the family of G1 winner Jade Hunter.

Dream Ahead’s owner Khalifa Dasmal was among those purchasing with an eye on future premiums when securing the Marju colt from Haras de la Louviere through agent Mark Crossman for 150,000 euros.  He is from a half-sister to G1 French Derby winner Lawman.
