Yarradale Stud shuttler Frost Giant was represented by a $100,000 yearling at the Keeneland September Sale on Wednesday.
The chestnut colt was sold by Kentucky breeders Jim & Pam Robinson of Brandywine Farm. He was purchased by California based Jeff Bloom who is best known for his association with Group 1 juvenile Majestic City.
Frost Giant’s Keeneland graduate is a younger brother to Loki’s Vengeance who claimed the LR Times Square Stakes (1300m) at Aqueduct in April.
Both colts were bred by Andrew Cohen who manages Frost Giant at Keane Stud in New York. They are from Subtle Sweetness (During), a multiple winner who also has a Frost Giant filly foaled in April.
Frost Giant is a Group 1 winning son of Giant’s Causeway and has been an immediate success at stud winning the first and second-season titles for New York based stallions. He is right in the running for the third-season premiership this year – Bustin Stones ($846K – 18 winners) leads from Frost Giant ($789K – 16 winners) with daylight third.
Frost Giant (USA) as his initial southern foals on the ground at Yarradale and the first of them to arrive was the colt from unraced Forestry mare Forest Fire on August 18. The colt’s dam is a daughter of Listed Chilean winner Brunequilda who was also placed in the G1 Chile 1000 Guineas.
Yarradale stands Frost Giant for a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee.
