Windsor Park sire Volksraad upped his Group 1 tally to 13 when Velocitea overhauled Catapulted to win the SAJC Goodwood at Morphettville on Sunday.
Velocitea (4m Volksraad – Cat Shmea by Felix the Cat) was New Zealand’s Champion South Island 2YO in 2007-08 when trained by Shane Kennedy and Ricky Carston. She was sold to Magic Millions principal Rob Fergusson and crossed the Tasman to win the G3 How Now Stakes, G3 Hyderabad Stakes and Listed JRA Stakes in Melbourne.
Transferred to Caulfield trainer Mick Price when Brian Mayfield-Smith retired, she proved a G1 was just around the corner when runner-up to Rostova in the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville in March.
Velocitea is the first foal of the stakes-placed mare Cat Shmea who comes from the family of Volksraad’s Australian G1 winner Orange County.
Volksraad is home and hosed for the New Zealand sires’ premiership this season. It will be his 8th title. He got the Goodwood winner from stakes-placed mare Cat Shmea who comes from the family of Volksraad’s Australian G1 winner Orange County.
